On March 15, 1947, French colonists landed in Hoi An. Together with the people of the whole country, the people of Hoi An launched a long and arduous war of resistance to save the country.
After capturing Hoi An, the French colonists immediately concentrated on building a forts system in the surrounding suburbs to protect the areas they occupied. In early 1948, the French established the forts of Phuoc Trach, Xom Moi and Lai Nghi, and Cam Pho Nam in District IV. This location is currently the headquarters of the Cam Nam Ward People's Committee.
