Fishing in Hội An was formed in a narrow land (about 60 km2 of natural area) which located at the coastal- estuary region with the diversity of natural ecological environment.
Moreover, the main residents of Hội An community were Vietnamese from the North and North – Central deltas coming to live with native Champa people and also with the integration of Chinese and Japanese merchants and the exchange with many peoples in Southeast Asia. So, this traditional fishing was formed long ago and developed from experiences of many different residents living together on the same land.
These characteristics decided the uniqueness, abundance and attractiveness of fishing, and fishing tools in Hội An. Right here, we can see the lively images on groups of fishing tools on the ponds, lakes, fresh water fields; swamps, brackish channels; or at sea and near the islands.
