The historical site Cay Thong Mot

Ninety years ago, Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee was officially established. This important milestone took place at the historical site of Cay Thong Mot now located in Tan Thanh block, Tan An ward, Hoi An city.

Back to the history of the country in general, in Quang Nam in particular by the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, the patriotic struggles against the French colonialism were widespread but unsuccessful. On June 5, 1911, Nguyen Tat Thanh-Nguyen Ai Quoc boarded a ship to fulfill his dream of liberating Vietnamese from the colonial rule of French colonialists. After many years, he came to Marxism-Leninism and determined that this was the only way to save the nation.

In order to prepare for politics, ideology and organization towards the establishment of the proletariat political party in Vietnam, he founded the Vietnam Youth Revolutionary Association in June 1925, conducted training classes and also published the “Revolutionary Road” to spread Marxism – Leninism into the country. On February 3, 1930, the Communist Party of Vietnam was established on the basis of uniting the three Communist organizations.

Along with the movement of the general revolutionary movement of the whole country, in Quang Nam, the prerequisites and necessary conditions for the establishment of local Party organizations had  also been actively prepared by communist comrades.

In September 1929, the Indochinese Communist Party Committee of Quang Nam Province was established. At the end of March 1930, Comrade Nguyen Phong Sac, representative of the Central Committee of the Central  Communist Party, came to convey information about the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam. At the suggestion of the Provisional Provincial Committee , the Indochina Communist Party of Quang Nam agreed and decided on the official ceremony to change the name of the Party.

On the evening of March 28, 1930, at the venue of Cay Thong Mot, a conference was held to establish the Vietnam Communist Party of Quang Nam province and elect the provisional Executive Committee of the Provincial Party Committee. Mr. Phan Van Dinh was Secretary and Comrade Pham Tham was Deputy Secretary. The Conference issued an Establishment Announcement, which stated: “Our communist movement has developed through a new path, that is, the Communist Party of Vietnam has established, the Party of workers, farmers and the hardworking people (and) oppressed exploitation in our country. The communist movement of Quang Nam province is in the same trend with the whole country, it develops on the basis of the struggle of proletariat farmers and oppressed people in the province. After listening to the Party’s envoy disseminating the Party’s tactics and regulations, we, the members of the provisional provincial committee of the Indochinese Communist Party , volunteered to sacrifice and fight under the guidance of the Vietnamese Communist Party, in defense of the rights for workers, farmers and hard-working people.”

Thus, from then, the revolutionary struggle of the people of Quang Nam was placed under the leadership of Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee and unified with the national struggle movement under the leading banner of the Vietnamese Communist Party.

In his memoirs, comrade Phan Van Dinh said that “that sacred moment touched many comrades’ hearts… Today I have been in the ranks of the Communists, with the strength of unity. The unification of the Party let me understand, my Party is ready to enter the fight with the enemy”.

History shows that on the journey of 90 years, Quang Nam Party Committee has constantly grown and developed. The Party Committee played the leading role along with the army and the people in the province to fight for glorious victories in the wars, liberate the country and construct and protect the country in the current period. The site of Cay Thong Mot has become a red address, forever confirming the great historical significance of the past 90 years as well as the  importance of the road going forward for the Provincial Party Committee.
