From the 16th and 17th centuries, Hoi An was a bustling trading port, attracting many domestic and foreign merchants around the world to exchange and trade. Therefore, the traditional medicine in Hoi An inherits experiences from the Cham, the East and the West people. In the past years, Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation has made efforts to research traditional medicine in general and in Hoi An in particular. Up to now, we are completing the final stages to prepare for the opening of the Museum of Medicine and welcome guests in the near future.
The museum will exhibit nearly 200 artifacts and materials, recreate activities of a medicine shop, medical examination and treatment. The Museum of traditional Medicine will become a thematic museum of folk medicine in the past to preserve precious properties and honor Hoi An traditional medicine in particular, Quang Nam in general. The museum will be a place where people interested in medicine can visit and study.
